Percht visits our hardening plant

On December 5, the employees of HTR GmbH experienced a special moment when a Percht paraded through our halls, bringing a centuries-old custom directly into our everyday working lives. The visit not only attracted attention, but also conveyed a piece of regional identity that is rarely experienced directly in a modern industrial environment.

The Perchten custom has a long tradition in the Alpine region and is closely linked to the so-called Raunächte – twelve nights between Christmas and Epiphany, during which, according to popular belief, the boundary between the visible world and the world of spirits is particularly permeable. During this time, Perchten are said to bring protection, drive away evil, and symbolically make room for the new year. Their striking masks, some frightening, some beautifully designed, embody both deterrent and protective powers. Bells, bells, and loud noises are deliberately part of the tradition: they are meant to drive away negative energies and dark influences.

This deeply rooted meaning was also reflected in our visit. When the heavy bells of the Percht boomed from the entrance area, a special atmosphere was created – a mixture of excitement, surprise, and respect for a figure that is much more than just a show effect. The costumed Percht moved with impressive presence, and his intricately carved mask—a central element of the custom—was a clear expression of centuries-old craftsmanship.

The artistically designed mask and the striking soundscape brought an almost mystical atmosphere to our environment, which is otherwise characterized by technical procedures and structured processes. This brief interruption to the working day did not detract from concentration or processes – on the contrary, it created a relaxed atmosphere and many spontaneous reactions.

The visit was a brief but intense impulse that illustrated how alive regional traditions remain today and how powerful their effect can be, even in an industrial setting. December 5 showed that cultural customs not only entertain, but also connect.

We would like to thank all employees for their positive response and look forward to sharing more special moments together in the future.
